After-Hours Help for You and Your Child
Children don?t always get sick during regular office hours. All ABC Family Pediatricians offices have teamed up to make sure your child can always get help. One of our pediatricians is always on call, we make urgent appointments evenings and weekends, and you can call our triage nurse 24 hours a day. There?s also a helpful decision-making tool for parents on the front page of our website. Of course, if you believe it?s an emergency, you should always call 9-1-1.
After-hours nurse: If your child is sick and you?re worried, you can call 610-821-8033. A triage nurse will answer 24 hours a day. Think of this nurse as a parent?s lifeline. Our pediatric triage nurses are trained to address your concerns immediately. They?ll give you advice, answer questions and make decisions about next steps, such as going to the emergency room now or waiting till tomorrow and seeing your regular doctor. In those rare cases where the triage nurse feels she needs to talk to a pediatrician, she?ll call the doctor and they?ll determine what steps you should take.
After-hours urgent appointments: We make appointments weekday evenings and Saturday and Sunday mornings for sick children. We see all children at the Allentown Medical Center office,
which is right next to Lehigh Valley Hospital at 17th and Chew. Be sure to call first for an appointment.
Website decision tool: On the home page, click on ?Is it time to call the doctor?? This helpful tool will provide advice on what you can do to make your child feel better, and when you should call a doctor.

Insurance and Billing
We accept most major health plans. We'll ask you about your insurance when you call for your first appointment, so you will know ahead of time if we accept your plan.
If we don't accept your insurance, you might have to pay the whole bill at the time of your child's appointment. For questions about your specific plan, call the office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We accept cash, checks, MasterCard, Visa and American Express for co-pays and any balance due.
All our billing is handled centrally by Lehigh Valley Physician Group. If you have a question about your bill, call 610-402-3210.

Referrals
If your insurance requires a referral for a specialist visit, please call at least two business days before your appointment is scheduled. Your message should include:
- Name of the specialist
- Date of your child's appointment
- Specialist's phone number
Prescription Refills
The best time to get a prescription refill is during a regular visit with your pediatrician. However, if your child takes a medication for a long-standing problem such as asthma or allergies, we usually can refill these over the phone.
We will normally call your pharmacy within 2-3 days. However, if you call Friday, Saturday or Sunday, we won't be able to call in a refill until early the following week. We may not be able to call in a medication if your child has not had a well visit in the last year or if the medication was prescribed by a doctor who is not part of ABC Family Pediatricians.
To ask for a refill, call the regular office number between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Leave a message in the prescription mailbox. The message should include:
- Your child's name
- Date of birth
- Your name
- Phone number where you can be reached
- Name of medication
- Strength and dosage (read it off the label)
- Pharmacy name
- Pharmacy phone number
