Amil Qureshi, D.O.
Pediatrician
Why did you become a pediatrician?
"It's so much fun working with children, and I've really enjoyed being a part of so many families. It has changed my perspective, and makes me more humble to be involved in the lives of so many families. And it has changed my personal and spiritual perspective to see the
strength children have in dealing with very complex problems. I think it is quite amazing."
What brought you to osteopathic medicine?
"The first time I heard about osteopathic medicine was at a career seminar in college. It was a very effective speech! But I realized osteopathic medicine speaks to my desire to treat the body as a whole-treat the disease, not the symptoms. At the time, it was considered more of an alternative to more traditional medicine. But I quickly learned that medicine is very diverse, and the differences between allopathic and osteopathic medicine are not as great as I had expected."
What do you think of the Lehigh Valley?
"I came to the United States from Pakistan when I was 17, and completed my medical education in New York. I have a love/hate relationship with New York City (love the excitement of the city, but not the crowds, driving and parking). So I felt I really wanted to practice in a rural community. I was lucky enough to find a spot here. And Allentown has a small-city flavor, but a lot more diversity than I thought."
What do you do for fun?
"I have two boys and spend as much time as I can with them. I also enjoy skiing, hiking and gardening."
What's the most important advice you can give to moms and dads?
"Be confident in your own intuitive ability to be a parent."
