ABC Family Pediatricians

Gwendolyn Chung
Pediatrician

Why did you become a pediatrician?
When I was a child, whenever I was asked what I wanted to be when I grow up I had three options: a super model, the president of the United States, or a pediatrician. Well, of the three, I think pediatrician is the most noteworthy. I have always wanted to be able to make an impact in the world, and as a pediatrician I believe that you have the ability to help do that one child at a time.

What is it like to be a pediatrician at ABC Family Pediatricians?
ABC Family Pediatricians is a wonderful practice full of unique individuals from many different backgrounds. It is a great group to work for and when I have children, there wouldn’t be a better place to get their medical care.

What’s your style in working with parents?
I will always greet the parents, but depending on the age of the child I usually start with the child and ask what’s wrong. I always enjoy talking with the kids and besides the fact that you never know what they are going to say, I want the children to realize that the visit is about them and that they need to be involved with their health care from an early age. Of course, I always want to know mom and dad’s version of the story and for them to fill in the details.

What’s the most important advice you can give to moms and dads?
Everything in the world is new and exciting to a child—take the moment and share in that same wonder of something as simple as an ant carrying a crumb across the sidewalk. You’ll never have the chance to get those moments back, and soon you’ll look back and your child is suddenly an adult. Don’t miss those opportunities.

What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy many activities including exercising, scrapbooking, jewelry making and reading.
