Patricia Shoemaker, M.D.
Pediatrician
Why did you choose pediatrics?
"I'm very interested in children, and as patients, I find them fascinating-the way they experience the world. It gives you a new perspective on life and the way we learn."
What's your philosophy in treating patients?
"I always treat my patients the way I would like to be treated."
What's the most important advice you can give to moms and dads?
"As your children grow, listen to them and establish good patterns of communication. I think everyone gets busy today with the activities of living. So we need to talk to children, know what they're thinking, know what they're dreams and aspirations are.
"I believe in treating the whole person, not the symptom. This is especially true in pediatrics. You have to look at it all."
Are you from this area?
"I'm originally from Lancaster, and was educated in Philadelphia. The Lehigh Valley is a good place to raise a family. I'm very fond of it."
